Return to Valdez

After two nights in Chitina we drove back over Thompson Pass to Valdez and reclaimed our beds at L&L and Patty's. The next day Bob Benda took us for a nature tour of the Valdez area including the pipeline area - here underground. Around 7 PM we boarded the ferry Aurora bound for Cordova. The Sound was flat calm and we saw quite a few little icebergs from Columbia Glacier. About halfway across Prince William Sound the ferry was diverted to make a stop at the native village of Tatitlik. The extra stop consumed another 1 1/2 hours so we arrived in Cordova about 1:30 AM. Russ of Cordova Auto Rental (907-424-5961) left us an 11 passenger van in the ferry parking lot. Rate was $88 / day plus 22% tax.
