Yakutat

I saved the best, Yakutat, for last.

Fran Latham, owner of the Blue Heron B&B where I usually stay in Yakutat, said that they were full up during the time we wanted to be in Yakutat. The Blue Herron is a beautiful place with a perfect view of the bay. The end of June is a pretty busy time for the Lathams. There are king salmon and sockeye (red) salmon running in the Situk River, and they do guiding.

Fran put me in touch with Skip Ryman (telephone 907-784-3396 and e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , but he doesn't have a web site) who has two nice cabins just across the bay from Blue Heron. The cabins rent for $200 / cabin / night. Each cabin is about 900 sq ft and has loft sleeping for 4-6 people, bedding is provided. Indoor bathroom and nice kitchen, porch, right on the bay with a magnificent view of the mountains in the Wrangell St. Elias National Park.
