St. Cere, the market town closest to Puymule, has a good
vegetarian restaurant. Yes, those are "Freedom Fries" arranged in a pyramid.
Saveur Bio Restaurant is an excellent vegetarian smorgasbord restaurant in Toulouse. Saveur-Bio at 21(?) Rue
Fontvieille, Jerriere le T.N.T, near Place Wilson. We got the reference from a woman in a health food store.
In general, that is a good way to find out if there is a health food restaurant in the area.
In France, where the standards for food are high, the health food restaurants have to cook very tasty and satisfying
items. Sometimes French vegetarian chefs are very creative. Saveur-Bio is a good choice. And they serve wine (and maybe beer).
I just found a link which lists vegetarian restaurants in France.

The Restaurante la Escalinata might be the best restaurant of our trip. They have vegetarian items but also meat dishes.
Villafranca del Bierzo (Leon) is a small town and la Escalinata has a low profile. Shortly after checking into our hotel
we visited the main plaza which has a couple of nice looking restaurants with outdoor seating. The posted menus looked very
good, but it was just late afternoon and we decided to roam around the back streets. There is a steep street which goes up
to the castillo. From the front la Escalinata looks something like an up scale restaurant, but it was not obvious when or
if it would be open for an evening meal. We came back about 8 PM and there was an illuminated menu but no one was in the
restaurant and the door was locked. A little sign said to ring the bell. We rang and were greeted by the owners, a man
and wife - apparently the entire staff.
Except for the summer months, la Escalinata is only open weekends and holidays. Schedule your trip accordingly. It is
worth it. Our light dinner was 51 Euros with homemade wine.
The address for la Escalinata is Plaza Prim, 4 (frente al castillo)
Next time we might be tempted to spend a couple of days in Villafranca del Bierzo.
The Restaurante O Triangulo is a little bit of a hike to the northwest from the very old center of Santiago.
It is on a very small, easily missed plaza which is just off one of the mail traffic streets. Partially below the
plaza level. Get help with the directions. Good food.
