Santiago de Compostela and the North Coast of Spain

Sunday evening, the end of the Camino. Oh, if we had only walked the whole way from St. Jean Pied de Porte what a great finale this would be. It is still pretty exciting to be arriving in a car.

I have recently discovered a web site with a comprehensive collection of photos taken by a cyclist on the Camino in 2003. It is amazing.

Guggenheim Museum Bilbao Leaving Santiago de Compostelle we drive north and east towards the coast. Our plan is to tour slowly for a couple of days then stop in Bilbao to see the new Guggenheim Museum by U.S. architect Frank Gehry. The design is completely free form; not a plumb or level edge on the exterior. Gehry took full advantage of computers to convert his sculpture into something buildable. The skin is thin titanium plates. The art collection inside pales in comparison to the structure; which may be the world's best example of modern or postmodern architecture. Worth a trip to Bilbao..

We have arrived in Bayonne and turned in our rental car. Tomorrow we will fly home to San Diego.
